How Do I Take a Screen Capture?
In this Help and Information tutorial, you will learn how to capture screenshots using the Microsoft application: snipping tool, and how to capture screen shots on Macs using keyboard shortcuts.
Prerequisites
Windows
Step 1
Open Snipping Tool by:
- a) Typing in "Snipping Tool" in the search box in the bottom left corner
- b) Click the snipping tool search result

Step 2
Choose the type of snip you want by selecting an option from the Mode drop-down menu. You have 4 options:

Rectangular Snip
- click and drag your cursor to create a rectangle around the portion of the screen you want captured. Release the cursor to complete your screen capture

Window Snip
- hover your cursor over the window you want to capture ( you will see a red box around the window). Click the screen to capture the window

Full-screen Snip
your entire screen will automatically be captured
Note: If you have 2 screens, both screens will be captured in this mode
- To create a new Snip, click the New button. Note: There will be a screen overlay indicating that the snipping tool is active

Note: If you've made a mistake, click the Cancel button to cancel the snip and create a new snip
Step 3
You will see a preview of your screen capture once you've completed your snip. To save the screen capture, click the Save icon

How to capture pop-up menus
One way you can capture pop-up menus that disappear when you click out of them, is by using the Delay feature in Snipping Tool
- Set a delay time by selecting the amount of seconds it will take you to open the pop-up menu
- A screen capture will automatically be snapped after the delay time

Mac
Step 1
To take a picture of your entire screen, press Shift + Command + 3
- The screenshot will be saved on your desktop as 'Screenshot.png'
- Press the Esc (escape) key to cancel the snap shot
Step 2
To take a screenshot of a selected portion, press Shift + Command + 4. The pointer will change to a crosshair.
- Click and drag the crosshair over the area you want to capture
- Release your mouse or trackpad to complete the snapshot
- The screenshot will be saved on your desktop as 'Screenshot.png'
Step 3
To take a picture of a window, Press Shift + Command + 4, you cursor will turn into a crosshair
- Press the spacebar. The cursor will turn into a camera
- Hover over a window to highlight it. Click your mouse or trackpad to capture the window
- Your screenshot will be saved on your desktop as 'Screenshot.png'
